Lavender farm photography sessions {Mayfield Lavender Photography}

All of your senses are bombarded at the gorgeous Mayfield Lavender. As soon as you enter the fields you can smell the calming perfume of the flowers, then there is the quiet buzz of the bees all around you and of course the stunning views both into the distance and up close with the flowers. I defy anyone to walk through the narrow paths without running their hands over the soft plants and well, pop into the cafe if you want to taste a Lavender meringue, they are utterly gorgeous.

I first visited this family run farm last year and I took some of these photos of my daughter. I had specifically wanted to take some beautiful shots to go on the walls of our new extension, it always shouts summer to me and even when it’s dreary or freezing cold I remember that this is just a few months away and the farmjust around the corner.  This photograph of her running in the yellow dress is also extremely special to me as it was featured on a very special blog called Snap Maven, which features lots of photographers work and incorporates a top ten of each of their themes. It was the first time I had submitted to them and I litereally yelped when I found out it had been chosen for the {lose yourself} theme. You can see the rest of the images and mine here.

My daughter loves it at the farm too, I really do believe in the calming effects of Lavender and although it’s often busy when we go there it is big enough to avoid being too close to other people. There are lots of bees (LOTS of bees), but they are happy buzzing around there without being bothered. You can also collect Rosemary Beetle hunters which help the farmers and is super fun for the kids (they will give you jars in the shop to do this!).

If you  have booked a shoot at the farm then a few tips on what to wear!

Keep it summery ….Lavender family photo shoot

It’s always going to be summer when the lavender is blooming so lighter colours look great. Wear layers if it’s chilly that you can take on and off as required. Cotton scarves are good accessories too.

Denim and white cotton, neutrals and blues look good and floaty tops and dresses give a more romantic feel. I do also love this pop of colour that the yellow provides. There is also a red phone box in the middle of the field (Random!!) so red might be a good alternative for a colour pop.

Boys and dads cotton, linen and denim are good, shorts or trousers.

Most importantly this is a farm so keep it relatively casual especially in the footwear department!

When your shoot is finished there is a great shop and cafe with all manner of lavender goods to try. You could also have a ride around the whole farm on the tractor!

If you are interested in a lavender session I have just a few spots left. Please get in touch as soon as possible to book 07774 403952
